It fills our hearts to know that our students have hearts for others!
Throughout GC, we’re seeing students get involved with helping flood victims in various ways. This is true from our elementary schools to the high school. We had the opportunity to sit down and talk with a few of these students, and what we learned will warm your heart. This is how the students at Argillite Elementary got involved.
Students kept asking their teachers what they could do to help the flood victims they were hearing about on the news. Teachers decided to let their classes work together to get things in motion! Everyone decided that 3rd grade students would write a letter to send home, 4th grade students would brainstorm a supply list, and 5th grade students would create posters to raise awareness!
Needless to say, these youngsters delivered!! They also told us that they enjoyed collaborating together, and for a very important reason. “It helped us get more done,” one student said. “Working together helped us get started faster,” said another. They currently have a great collection of cleaning supplies to send to flood victims, and that collection is growing!
We asked these student representatives a very important question, eager to hear their answers. We asked, “why is it important to help people who will probably never help you back?” Here are some of their answers that followed:
“If other people are in hard times and you’re not… you should help them.”
“It feels really good knowing that I’m helping people… like I’m doing something really important.”
“You need to help people… you never know what someone’s going through.”
“Even though you might never see them… you’ll still be able to make them feel better.”
These students served as representatives for their classes, but our schools are full of children with hearts like this. We are continually moved, to say the least. Don’t forget to ask your student what their school might be doing in case you want to get involved!
