GROCERIES, OUTER SPACE, AND LISTS
Students in the classes of Mrs. Brumfield have been working hard this week! They used a grocery list to practice brainstorming ideas, then grouping them into bigger categories for composition. Students also applied the strategy to a debatable topic and text set about space.

MEIOSIS CREATURES
Students in Mrs. Logsdon's class are enjoying their unit on meiosis and learning about dominant and recessive traits. They created a creature, Reebop, based on the genetype that were drawn from a bucket to determine the phenotype.
They then had to draw their creature based on those traits. This is imaginative and engaging learning!
TEXT MAPPING
Text mapping, developed by Dave Middlebrook in the 1990s, is a visual technique to help students understand how information is organized in content area texts, especially textbooks. Students mark sections of the text and the included features.

NATIONAL GEOGRPAHIC EXPLORER: OCEANS
Last week, students participated in a question and answer session with National Geographic Explorers. Students asked great questions about oceans!
THEE JACK HARTMANN?!
On Friday, Ms. Katie Williams took her EdRising students to a Jack Hartmann workshop at Shawnee State University. Jack did a lesson on rhyming as a tool for reading, and these future teachers loved it! Students also enjoyed a campus tour. What a great day!
REAL-WORLD MATHEMATICS
Students in the classes of Melissa Travis spent time matching equations to real-world problems last week. This is a a valuable activity, and students look truly engaged!
SPECIAL RECOGNITION: READER and WRITER OF THE WEEK
This week, Raelynn Ream has earned Reader and Writer of the Week! She placed fifth in Language Arts at the regional academic team competition and will be advancing to the state competition! We are so proud of this Wildcat!
COLLEAGUE CREDIT
Ms. Katie Williams shares that we have put both Ashley and Darrell to the test the last few weeks, and they have passed with flying colors. We have had so many routine appointments for staff and students and flooded them with sick visits. This service and our providers are lifesavers! Thank you, Ashley and Darrell!
WILDCAT OF THE WEEK
Mrs. Brumfield shares that John always shows respect during the Pledge of Allegiance each morning. If it is hat day, he follows the U.S. Flag Code and removes his hat without being reminded. Way to go, John!

Today, students in the classes of Ms. Katie Williams have been working hard on their text feature collages. Great work, Wildcats!
EdRISING
A new semester means EdRising students are thinking about their dream teaching jobs and designing their dream Bitmoji classrooms. They've got it covered, ranging from preschool to high school social studies. Their classrooms include some pretty amazing creativity: gaming chairs, cubbies, beanbags, and even THERAPY DOGS! Great job in both your designs and presentations, Wildcats!
WILDCATS OF THE WEEK
Ms. Melissa Bowling shares that she is so proud of McKennly and Olivia. Last week, these two young ladies joined their principals in a community meeting to discuss The Core Four. These girls did a fantastic job and made their entire school incredibly proud!
COLLEAGUE CREDIT
Mrs. Brumfield shares that Ms. Johnson does a fantastic job of decorating and creating a welcoming library! From her Roll-A-Genre activity to her "What's the librarian reading?" board, she makes certain that the library is a lively and engaging place!
WRITER OF THE WEEK
Mrs. Brumfield shares that Jaxon recently submitted a perfect example of a short response question for the article of the week in English class. He even remembered to add textual evidence to support his response!

Last weekend, we celebrated each of our ERAS! From Taylor Swift's Rep Era to our own Wildcat Era, we danced the night away and had SO MUCH FUN! Enjoy these smiles!
SEVENTH-GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES
Students in Mr. Yancey's class recently used a hybrid interactive activity, shifting between paper and digital tasks, in class to review concepts in geography. Mr. Yancey shares that classification of assignments is a great way to help reinforce concepts for students!
