SMALL CLASS SIZES
At Wurtland Middle School, we offer small class sizes. These benefit our students in a variety of ways and allow our teachers to build positive and supportive relationships with each member of our student body in unique, targeted settings.

FLEX PERIOD
At WMS, students have unique opportunities. One of these is our daily FLEX period. During this time, students participate in "brain breaks," social and emotional learning, and even a weekly intramural slot. It's a great time for student growth!
AGRICULTURE LANDSCAPING
Last week, under the supervision of Mr. Haywood and Ms. Travis, students had the opportunity to complete landscaping for a local family's property. They worked hard throughout the day and did a fantastic job!

HOSPITALITY and TOURISM
Anne Stephens, the Greenup County Extension Agent for Community Arts, joined Mrs. Shannon's Hospitality and Tourism class last week. Students enjoyed her presentation and learned about a variety of topics!

THE FAIRYTALE NETWORK
Our drama students performed a delightful spring production with their rendition of “The Fairytale Network”. We are so proud of our students and the progress of our drama program under the leadership of Ms. Baleigh Scott. Great work, everyone!
COLLEAGUE CREDIT
Ms. Katie Williams shares that Baleigh is an all-around rockstar teacher, especially in her first year. She, however, deserves special recognition for the hard work she has put into directing TWO drama productions in her elective course. Students performed Reindeer Games for us right before winter break and, this week, presented The FairyTale Network. She has taken the initiative to revive our drama program and has done a wonderful job! The performers and their audiences are so glad! Way to go, Ms. Scott!
WILDCAT OF THE WEEK
Ms. Williams shares that Joanna is the definition of a good friend. She has a big heart and is concerned for others and their well-being. She looks out for her peers and helps to meet needs of others. We could all use a friend like Joanna.
TESTING FOR VIRTUAL STUDENTS
Please note the required testing times for virtual students. All virtual students need to arrive at Wurtland Middle School at 7:45 a.m. The noted test administration times are estimates, and pick-up times may vary based on student completion times.
Today has been a pretty cool day for Wurtland Middle School, as some of our students participated in a Google Meet with Kentucky’s newest Poet Laureate, Silas House. Did we discuss Wurtland Middle as an anchor school in one of his first projects?! Absolutely!
It’s Administrative Professionals Day! Barb Tussey and Barbara Nelson are heroes in our building. No matter the situation, they are on the frontlines. They love our students, support our teachers, and take care of our administrators. Barbs, We appreciate you endlessly!
