IT'S GAME DAY FOR OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSKETEERS!

WHY WURTLAND?
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
Did you know that Wurtland Middle School has worked hard to build unique community partnerships? Last year, Wurtland Middle School became the first middle school in the country to collaborate with Habitat for Humanity. We are now receiving support from many local businesses, such as Sage & Root and Appalachian Folkology. What's more? We're even collaborating with our local carpenters' union!
At Wurtland Middle School, we believe in collaborating, and our partners are helping to make a difference in the lives of our students!

EdRising
In our Specialty Speaker Series, EdRising students were treated to a visit with Mrs. Renee White. Mrs. White spoke with students about the education and training needed for a career as a Speech Language Pathologist. She taught students about viscosity with food thickener and apple juice and let students explore her teaching tools, manipulatives, and assistive technologies. We appreciate you so much, Mrs. White!

WHY WURTLAND?
AWARD-WINNING STRINGS PROGRAM
Did you know that Wurtland Middle School offers an award-winning strings program that is changing the lives of our students each day? This program is unlike any in our area, and students love it! Eli Williams, a sixth-grade student, shares how much he has improved throughout the year. Eli states, "At the beginning, it was very hard for me. You need time to learn notes and get your posture right. If your posture isn't right, you can't play the instrument as well." Luckily, our students are committed to working hard. He adds, "It definitely has pushed me and is inspiring. Whenever you learn how to play, it sounds awesome! Sometimes, it gives me a relief from stress."
Why Wurtland? It's in the innovations of our teachers and students to be better each day!

SPRING BOOK FAIR
On Monday (3.27.23), our spring book fair will begin! Students can participate in a sucker-pull game to win prizes. They will also have a jellybean guessing activity, and the winner of this will win $15.00 to spend at the book fair. Family shopping night will be on Thursday, March 30. It's certain to be wonderful!

STATE CHORAL ASSESSMENT
Mrs. Andrea Daniels is excited to share that the WMS choir is DISTINGUISHED! Students performed today at the KMEA District 8 State choral assessment on the campus of Morehead State. Students prepared three musical selections (two of which were in Latin) and were tasked with a sight piece they had previously not seen. We are so proud of their accomplishments! Congratulations!

It's an open house event for the entire community! Join Wurtland Elementary and Wurtland Middle for a fun-filled event for the entire family! We know that the only way to help our students be successful is TOGETHER. Let's have fun along the way!

STATE ARCHERY TOURNAMENT
We would like to congratulate all of the members of our archery team on their exemplary performances at last weekend's state archery tournament! We are so proud of their hard work and efforts.

COLLEAGUE CREDIT
Mr. Doran shares that Mrs. Vanover recognized a need and acted on it. She knew there was a need for wireless mice in special education classrooms throughout the building and took this need to Ms. Bowling. Through collaboration with the Board of Education, all special education classrooms now have sets of wireless mice. Thank you for thinking of others, Mrs. Vanover!

WILDCAT OF THE WEEK
Mrs. Miruka Williams shares that each day, after the bell for the next class rings, Caleb always makes sure all areas are nice and neat before leaving her classroom. Way to go, Caleb!

READER OF THE WEEK
Since our school purchased Acclerated Reader, Tanner has been continually reading. He has been reading with every free moment he has and completing tests. He is doing an awesome job! Way to go, Tanner!

Help us to wish Owen Nickel and Alexis Bowling luck as they travel to the state academic team competition this weekend! Also, please take a moment to appreciate this 80s-inspired, NOT family awkward photo! As long as we’re having fun, we’re doing it right!

HOSPITALITY and TOURISM
Farm fresh eggs that were purchased from our 4-H friends made for a fun adventure in Mrs. Shannon's class this afternoon. Some students preferred scrambled; others chose to keep their eggs on the sunny side. What's missing? Toast and orange juice!

PERSONAL FINANCE
Mrs. Miruka Williams is excited to share that her personal finance class has been renewed for another year thanks to the generous sponsorship of Susan Fleming with EXP Realty. Thank you, Ms. Fleming, for supporting our Wildcats!
